Helping Bradford Royal Infirmary fly the flag(s) for diversity
72 national flags displayed around the hospital
The NHS is well known for being one of the UK’s most diverse employers and Bradford is one of the UK’s most diverse cities so it makes sense that Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) would be the perfect place to celebrate such inclusion.
Did you realise that the BRI team includes staff from 72 countries around the world? The most common nationalities are British, Filipino, and Indian, right through to those that are represented by just one team member, such as Saint Vincentian, Mauritanian, and Austrian.
How Dekko helped BRI represent all nationalities
We already work closely with the Trust on different projects and when Director Mark Holloway came up with the idea of a visual representation around the site, they approached us to help.
Our in-house graphics team digitally printed the flags which were applied to glass balustrades, installed on walkways around the hospital. They were printed double sided so that the flags can be viewed from both sides.
Colour and joy to lift spirits
As well as celebrating all the people who have come to Bradford to work in our NHS and care for people, these flags serve to add colour and interest around the site. Being applied to glass, the light shines through them and makes the whole space more vibrant.
You can see from the photo above that they perfectly complement the rainbow we installed during the pandemic, now nationally recognised as the iconic symbol of the NHS.
Project lead, Samantha Hunter, said “We have had some great comments and it’s certainly spread some positivity around embracing all nationalities and working as one.â€
We love that this graphics project was both symbolic and decorative and hope that it reinforces how valued all staff are in the trust.
